Cutting Edge Forensics to Present Upcoming Fingerprint Processing, Collection, and Photography Course at foster+freeman US Office

This three-day training course, Fingerprints: Detecting the Undetected, will be presented by Cutting Edge Forensics at our US office in Ashburn, Virginia. The course will include comprehensive training on the mechanical and chemical processing of fingerprint evidence along with photography workshops, including specialized lighting techniques and the use of forensic light sources.

This course will incorporate a large portion of hands-on practical’s and is intended for crime scene investigators/technicians, forensic or lab technicians and officers/detectives/investigators at any stage in their career.  Students will learn a wide range of processing techniques for discovering and documenting fingerprints on various surface types while additionally, learning to take quality 10-prints and major case prints that are suitable for booking, eliminations, and other uses.

The course will also introduce students to photographic and lighting techniques that are useful in the documentation of fingerprint evidence using macro, infrared and ultraviolet photography.  Students should bring any digital camera equipment (camera, tripod, lenses, flash, UV flashlights, lens filters, flashlight) they use at their department.

Meet Your Instructors

Shelley Dill, MS, CCSA (Cutting Edge Forensics, LLC)

Mrs. Shelley Dill earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice and with a Political Science minor from Westminster College in Pennsylvania in 1999. After college she worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer for seven years. During that time, she attended two Probation and Parole Academies and the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2006, she was hired as a Crime Scene Technician with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) in Pensacola, Florida. In 2014, she attended Troy University and earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice.

While at the ECSO, Mrs. Dill advanced to a Crime Scene Technician III after receiving specialized training in numerous investigative disciplines including crime scene processing, proper documentation, digital photography, alternative light source photography, sketching, shooting reconstruction, blood stain pattern analysis, latent print chemical processing, fingerprint comparisons, forensic supervision and much more.
In 2019, Mrs. Dill became a National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) authorized Trainer by working closely with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) utilizing the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS). Mrs. Dill is also a Certified Crime Scene Analyst through the International Association for Identification (2018).

For many years, Mrs. Dill developed and instructed courses such as Advanced Crime Scene, Crime Scene Safety, Introduction to Criminalistics, Biological Evidence, Crime Scene Photography I, and Crime Scene Photography II at Pensacola State College. Mrs. Dill has utilized the skills she learned over the years in the forensic field to instruct crime scene technician trainees, deputies, cadets and District One Medical Examiner Investigators on crime scene techniques and photography. She has written and co-authored numerous policies, manuals, grants and proposals for ECSO. Mrs. Dill had been instrumental in obtaining new technology for the agency.

In 2021, Mrs. Dill resigned from the ECSO to work for her own company, Cutting Edge Forensics, LLC. as a forensics instructor focusing on basic crime scene principles, photography, alternate light source photography and chemical processing techniques for fingerprint development.

Rebecca Nick (foster+freeman)

Rebecca Nick is the Technical Sales Lead at foster+freeman USA. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic and Investigative Science and a Bachelor of Art degree in Criminology as well as a Master of Science degree in Forensic and Fraud Investigations from West Virginia University. She completed a comprehensive internship with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Her roles at foster+freeman include sales, installation, and training for various company products. She specializes in crime scene investigation, laboratory analysis and processing of evidence, and latent impression development and capture. She has presented at multiple divisional and national International Association for Identification educational meetings as well as numerous other professional conferences on the topic of crime scene investigation and latent fingerprint imaging.
